ABOUT THE AWARDS PROGRAM
The Illinois Fraternal Order of Police (ILFOP) recognizes and honors individuals who have made significant contributions to law enforcement, the Fraternal Order of Police and the community at-large. Recipients are selected by an awards committee – comprised of ILFOP members – who are charged with reviewing peer nominations in seven categories:
Bill Mehrten’s Lifetime Achievement Award
An award granted to any long-time member of the ILFOP who has consistently demonstrated leadership, fraternalism, professionalism, and dedication to the ILFOP organization and fellow members.
ILFOP Award for Fraternalism
An award granted to an ILFOP member or lodge that has gone above and beyond to demonstrate the true meaning of fraternalism, whether to other ILFOP member(s) or within the greater community, on behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police.
ILFOP Award for Valor
An awarded granted to an ILFOP member or to any law enforcement officer eligible for membership in the ILFOP for an act of outstanding bravery or heroism in which the law enforcement officer has demonstrated to a great degree, the characteristics of selflessness, personal courage, and devotion to duty.
Chardy Lieb Memorial Award
An award granted to an ILFOP member’s wife or significant other that has gone above and beyond to demonstrate the true support of our members and the Illinois State FOP Lodge, whether to other ILFOP member(s) or within the greater community, on behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police.
President’s Award
An award presented by the State Lodge President to an individual that has demonstrated true commitment and service to the Illinois State FOP Lodge.
ILFOP Award for Meritorious Service
An awarded granted to an ILFOP member or to any law enforcement officer eligible for membership in the ILFOP for outstanding police work, which brought great credit to the law enforcement profession in a case of unusual public interest or for an outstanding accomplishment.
Lifesaving Award
An award granted to an ILFOP member or to any law enforcement officer eligible for membership in the ILFOP for outstanding efforts in performing actions or applying techniques that result in saving or sustaining a human life.
Blue and Gold Award
An award granted to a non-law enforcement officer or organization that has shown great generosity and support to the ILFOP. This award can also be granted to a citizen in recognition of outstanding effort and service to a law enforcement organization or to the citizens of Illinois.
NOTE: The Awards Committee will have the responsibility for reviewing all award nominations and then approving or disapproving them. If disapproved, the ILFOP will draft a letter to the nominee recognizing the nomination and informing the nominee of the result.seven
