SPRINGFIELD –  The Illinois Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) has joined the public awareness campaign launched this week by the National FOP Foundation to spotlight the  acts of heroism by law enforcement officers that take place every day across America.

“The Our True Heroes campaign will help Americans remember the tremendous risk and personal sacrifice that police officers make every day to help keep our fellow citizens and  communities safe,” said Illinois FOP State Lodge President Chris Southwood. “Each day law enforcement officers display their love for the job and for their communities by their acts of heroism and kindness. It's time we make everyone aware of their dedication, courage and sacrifice.”

The National FOP Foundation's Our True Heroes is a new grassroots campaign to tell the stories of real cops and the jobs they do every day. The campaign has kicked off with a community-driven website and social media presence at www.ourtrueheroes.org and at TrueHeroStories on Facebook. and will build throughout the year. Links to these sites can be found on the Illinois FOP website, www.ilfop.org, and the Illinois FOP will feature national and state Our True Heroes stories on its Facebook page.

The Our True Heroes campaign was launched on May 15, the beginning of National Police Week.
