Critical Incident Support CDs available from ILFOP
The Fraternal Order of Police, State Lodge has recently released a Critical Incident Support CD to aid officers and their families statewide in dealing with officer injury and death. When Should I Call?
CIST operates a toll-free, 24-hour hotline, 1-866-535-1078. CIST provides law enforcement officers seeking assistance with peer support or social services, a confidential program to receive the help they need. CIST will find a professional organization or program that the officer can contact. ALL calls are confidential and no information about the officer is recorded. Whether the office seeks assistance with an alcohol or gambling problem or is having marital problems, CIST will find them help.
Should a major critical incident, such as a police officer involved shooting occur; CIST will respond. CIST will assist in notifying the Illinois Network of Critical Incident Stress Management. If requested CIST will also send a team member to assist the officer, family and department. The CIST member will be there to ensure that the officer has all the support of the F.O.P. If the critical incident involves a line of duty death, CIST can assist in the preparations of a law enforcement funeral.
Mission Statement
The CIST Committee will respond to the needs of law enforcement officers involved in critical incidents occurring within the state of Illinois and facilitate the response of established Critical Incident Stress Management Teams or the appropriate professional assistance programs for officers involved. CIST will provide referrals to established peer support and social service organizations to law enforcement officers requesting assistance.
